Worship Ministry
The Contemporary Worship Altar Team helps prepare the altar for 9:45 worship. Contact: Brenda Cronemeyer
The Creative Design Team participates in the designing of the Contemporary worship services, using visual arts, drama, and multimedia. Contact: Tom Dent
The Contemporary Worship Praise Team at the 9:45 service includes auditioned vocalists and instrumentalists who lead worship for the Contemporary Service. Contact: Kyle Jones
The Hospitality Team provides refreshments between services in the Gholson area, located directly behind the Sanctuary. 9:45 Contemporary Worship Services once a month. Contact: Roland Daniel
The Contemporary Greeters welcome members and guests as they enter services, provide assistance as needed, and hand out church bulletins. Time commitment is one Sunday a month. Contact: Brenda Cronemeyer
Sanctuary Assistants prepare the altar for services, prepare communion elements and clean up after the 8:30 and 11:00 services. Time committment is one Sunday per month. Contact: Diane Bailey or Diane Beisel
Altar Angels prepare the sanctuary for worship services by placing pencils, offertory envelopes, prayer cards, visitor's pads, etc. in the back of the pews. Time committment is to prepare the sanctuary for a month once a quarter. Contact: Diane Bailey, Diane Beisel
The Chancel Choir is an adult choir that leads worship at 8:30 and 11:00 services. Special musical presentations are also done throughout the year. Rehearsals are at 7:15 pm on Wednesdays. Contact: Kevin Lamb
Greeters welcome members and guests as they enter traditional services at 8:30 & 11:00, provide assistance as needed, and hand out church bulletins. Time commitment is one Sunday a month.
Ushers assist members and guests to their seats, pass collection plates, and collect offering. Time commitment is to usher at either the 8:30 or 11:00 service once a month. Contact: Jim Royal or Dona Colglazier
Acolytes: Work with 4th through 6th graders to instruct them on acolyte duties. Acolytes are put on a rotating schedule and are required to attend training once a month during the Sunday School hour. Contact: Kim Maupin
Office Ministry
Receptionist Assistants answer the Church office phone and assist visitors, and perform light secretarial duties. Time commitment is 2 hours on Tuesday mornings. Contact: Darla Perry
Bulletin Ministry Assistants stuff inserts into bulletins for Sunday services. Time commitment is one Friday morning each month. Contact: Darla Perry
Newsletter Ministry Assistants prepare newsletters for mailing by sealing newsletters and applying mailing labels. Time commitment is one Wednesday a month from 10:30-noon. Contact: Darla Perry
Church Sign Assistants change the sign in front of the church to reflect titles of Sunday's upcoming sermons or special events. Time commitment is approximately 1 hour weekly on Tuesday. Contact: Darla Perry
Special Projects Mailing Assistants stuff envelopes and apply address labels for special mailing for various programs/ministries. Time commitment is 2-3 hours as needed. Contact: Darla Perry
Children's Ministry
Community Event Team Members (Trunk or Treat, Egg Hunt, VBS....)assist with the planning of family fun events. Tasks include food service, activity assistance, set-up and take-down, publicity. Time commitment is once a quarter. Contact: Jennifer Meyers
Nursery Workers (Birth - 2 years) care for, play with, rock, and love our littlest angels. No preparation is necessary; just come and play! Time commitment is during one Sunday Service a month and/or during special events. Contact: Jennifer Meyers
Children's Church Assistants come to the 11:00 worship service and join the children during the children's moment, then upstairs for Children's Church. No preparation necessary- simply come and help out. Time commitment is once a month. Contact: Jennifer Meyers
Sunday School Assistants (K-5th Grade) assist with a program called "The Trek." Leaders simply facilitate small group discussions. No preparation is necessary. Contact: Jennifer Meyers
Sunday School Teachers (3-4 years) plan and prepare a Sunday School lesson on alternate Sundays. Curriculum is provided. Time commitment is twice a month. Contact: Jennifer Meyers
WOW- "Flipt" Assistant works with small groups of children ages PreK-5th grade with the Flipt curriculum. No preparation is required. Time commitment is Wednesday Evenings, 6:30-7:15 pm. Contact: Jennifer Meyers
Vacation Bible School: Work with children, ages 4-5th grade, to various stations and activities for VBS. Time commitment is 1/2 day for one week in the summer (usually in June). Also attends a 1-hour orientation session prior to VBS and a Friday evening celebration at the conclusion of VBS. Contact: Jennifer Meyers
Preschool Substitute Teachers for Weekday Childcare are available to teach in the preschool and playschool programs on an as-needed basis during the school year. Classes are Monday-Friday from 8:30-1:30. Contact: Pam Rehberg
Playground Assistants for Weekday Childcare assist teachers with supervising children on the playground for the preschool program. Must be able to safely maneuver around the playground and safely lift and assist young children. Time commitment is one day per week from 9-1. Contact: Pam Rehberg
Classroom Volunteers for Weekday Childcare Program assist teachers in the classroom in the preschool or playschool programs. Time commitment is one day per week or month from 9-1 during the school year. Contact: Pam Rehberg
Singers, Story-tellers, Readers for the Weekday Childcare Program share their talents with preschool children on an as-needed basis on weekdays throughout the school year between 9 and 1. Contact: Pam Rehberg
Pick-up and Drop-off Monitors for the Weekday Childcare Program supervise the pick-up and drop-off of children in the preschool and playschool programs. Must be able to safely lift children in and out of the car and secure them in a car seat. Time commitment is one day a week or month during hte school year either from 8:30-9:30 or 12:30-1:30. Older Adult Ministry
Special Touch Volunteers minister to others through visits, telephone calls or written notes. Special Touch members are assigned an individual to contact on a regular basis. They visit the homebound and all units of Magnolia Manor. Time commitment is flexible, but involves weekly contact with the assigned individual. Monthy meetings are scheduled with the other Special Touch Volunteers. Contact: Don Proctor
Sunday Morning Transportation Volunteers transport in our own vehicle someone who is unable to get to church on their own and then return them to their residence after the service. Each individual is assigned one person to transport on a weekly basis. Contact: Don Proctor
"Holy Rollers" Transportation Volunteers transport individuals to doctor's appointments in your own vehicle. Transportation may be needed to Jacksonville or Savannah. Time commitment is variable and services are provided on an as-needed basis. Contact: Don Proctor
Older Adult Yearbook Editors collect photos and articles of older adults, ages 55 and up, then compile them into a yearbook. Time commitment is for 1 year, as needed.
Older Adult Council Members oversee and assist in the planning of ministries and programmingg for older adults. Time commitment is approximately 2 hours monthly. Contact: Don Proctor
Helping Hands Volunteers offer help in carpentry, plumbing, auto mechanics, and other skills to widows in the church and other in need. Contact: Don Proctor
Youth Ministry
Sunday Morning Snack Team provides donuts and juice for middle school youth once a month. Contact: Elizabeth Jones
Sunday School Teacher or Substitute Teachers lead middle or high school Sunday School classes at 9:45 or 11:00. Curriculum provided. Time commitment is weekly or as needed. Contact: Elizabeth Jones
Sunday Night Counselors invest 2 1/2 hours per week in middle school or high school youth through: attending Sunday Night Youth Group, playing games, leading small groups, and just "hanging out." Time commitment is Sunday nights, 5:00-7:30 pm. Contact: Elizabeth Jones
Youth Prayer Team commits to pray daily for 1 youth and/or specific youth ministry concerns. Time commitment is flexible. Contact: Elizabeth Jones
Youth Resource Team: Do you have a talent, a boat, a farm? Would you like to help with special events or trips? Do you have special gifts or talents to offer the youth ministry? Then we have a place for you! Time commitment is flexible/variable. Contact: Elizabeth Jones
Facilities Ministry
Building Maintenance Assistants help maintain a quality facility so that all who enter our buildings may grow in their understanding of Christ in an environment free of distractions. Requires the ability to perform "minor" repairs, plumbing, and maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs. Time commitment is flexible, depending upon the task. Contact: Darla Perry
Landscape/Lawn Services Assistants maintain a quality exterior landscape so that all will feel welcomed into our buildings. Time commitment is flexible, depending on the task. Contact: Darla Perry
Kitchen Assistants organize the kitchen, routinely "straighten" the kitchen, inventory supplies and make recommendations for stocking the kitchen. Time commitment is one hour a week. Day and time is flexible. Contact: Darla Perry
Prayer Ministry
Tuesday Lunch Prayer Team is a group of people who meet from 12:30-1:00 in the chapel to corporately pray for God's direction of SSUMC. Contact: Carolyn Dent
Wednesday Morning Prayer Hedge is a group of men who meet at 6:30 am to pray for our pastors. Contact: John Lindgren
Sunday Evening Prayer Team is a group of people who meet from 6:00-6:30 pm to pray for individual prayer requests. Contact: Marcia Maguire
Prayer Warriors commit to pray for a specific need or to pray with an individual partner on an as needed basis. Time commitment is flexible, and prayer can be from home. Contact: Tom Dent or Brenda Cronemeyer
Discipleship Ministry
Adult Sunday School Teachers positions are available for all ages of adults to teach a wide variety of subjects. The average time commitment is for 1 year. Assistance with curriculum and training is provided. Contact: Tom Dent
Adult Sunday School Teacher Substitutes are available to serve as substitute teachers for adults on an on-call basis. Curriculum and training provided. Contact: Tom Dent
Adult Small Group Leaders pray for, prepare, and shepherd a small group of people to grow in their faith. Curriculum and training provided. Time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week. Contact: Tom Dent.
Service Ministry
Stephen Ministers provide one-on-one Christian care to those experiencing hard times such as the loss of a loved one, divorce, illness, problems with children, addiction, etc. Stephens Ministers are interviewed, receive 50 hours of training, participate in on-going supervision and visit regularly with an assigned care receiver. In addition, they attend a bimonthly meeting with other Stephen Ministers. Must be able to listen and maintain strict confidentiality for care receivers. United Methodist Women is an organization which enables women to be educated and active in the global and local ministries of the church. Meets monthly at various locations and times. Seven groups to choose from for all ages. Contact: Stella Avrett
Wednesday Night Reservation Check-in Volunteers work with one other person to check dinner reservations and collect money for Wednesday Night Dinners. Requires the ability to collect money and make change. Time commitment is one Wednesday night a month from 5:30-6:30. Contact: Darla Perry
Mission Outreach Ministry
Habitat for Humanity Team helps eliminate substandard housing in the area by helping low-income families earn a simple, decent home in which to live and raise their children. All types of help needed from serving llunch to volunteers to building, carpentry, painting, landscape, etc. Time commitment flexible. Contact: Church Office
MAP International Team: MAP International is an organization that promotes th etotal health- physical, economic, social, emotional and spiritual health- of impoverished people in over 115 countries. Team members go to the MAP facility in Brunswick to prepare boxes of supplies for shipping to all parts of the world. Time commitment is once a month for approximately 3 hours. Manna House Team Members help to eliminate hunger by working at the Manna House in Brunswick to prepare and serve lunch for low-income families. Time commitment is once a month from 9-1:30. Contact: Ray Colglazier
Harmony Square
Communications Ministry
Sound Engineers/Multimedia Assistants operate the sound-mixing console and other audio/visual equipment for worship services, weddings, funerals, and special events. Work in a team environment. Training is provided. Time commitment is once a month during a worship service (8:30, 9:45, 11:00) or more as needed. Contact: Darla Perry
Video Production Assistants assist staff members and others to produce and edit video projects for the various ministries. Knowledge of video production and editing software is necessary. Time commitment varies. Contact: Darla Perry.
Computer Graphics Assistants help with layout and design of brochures, booklets and other special projects. Knowledge of graphic art software essential. Time commitment as needed. Contact: Darla Perry
Fine Artists create posters, banners, murals, and other items for special presentations. Time commitment as needed. Contact: Darla Perry
Photographers take photos at events and other assignments for pictures to be used in church publications. Time commitment varies. Contact: Darla Perry
PowerPoint Assistants operate the computer through the Worship Services or other special events. You are provided with a completed presentation for the service. Requires personal computer skills and the ability to maintain focused concentration during the entire event. Training is provided. Time commitment is one hour per Sunday once a month or as needed. Publicity Coordinators develop publicity campaigns and strategies for special projects. Coordinate with ministry groups and staff to publicize church-wide functions. Time commitment as needed. Contact: Darla Perry
Reporters/ Writers cover special events and write articles for various publications and the web site. Contact: Darla Perry
Church Historian Team gathers, preserves, organizes, and creates historical archives for SSUMC. Time commitment as needed. Contact: Darla Perry
Creative Writing Assistants help staff and ministry volunteers with written materials to support their ministries, including writing plays, dramas, stories, etc. Time commitment as needed. Contact: Darla Perry
Web Site Assistants assist in the design and updates of the SSUMC web site. Knowledge of web site design is essential. Time commitment varies. Must be able to work from the church office. Contact: Darla Perry
Computer Support Assistants provide specialized support for computer technology within the church on an as-needed basis. Contact: Darla Perry
Church Standing Committee Ministry (Names are presented to the Nominations Committee for consideration in the Fall)
Trustee Committee Members are charged to oversee, maintain and supervise all local church property including buildings and grounds, gifts, trust funds, insurance coverage, etc. Individuals with knowledge of construction, building maintenance, real estate, insurance matters, etc., would be helpful in this position. Time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours per month. Contact: Darla Perry or Benjy Varnell
Finance Committee Members oversee the operating budget of the church and make recommendations to the Church Council regarding udgets and expenditures. Individuals with financial and business backgrounds would be helpful in this position. Time commitment is approximately 1 hour per month. Contact: Darla Perry or Benjy Varnell
Stewardship Committee Members oversee all areas related to stewardship of time, gifts, and finances including the annual stewardship campaign. Individuals with financial counseling backgrounds or those who are interested in helping others identify their spiritual gifts would be helpful in this position. Staff/Parish Relations Committee Members oversee all matters of the church staff including evaluations, continuing education, and personnel policies and procedures. They ensure an adequate staff to support the ministries of the church. Time commitment is approximately 2 hours quarterly.
Evangelism Committee Members are charged with the task of equipping the Church to reach out to people with the good news of Jesus Christ. They will welcome others with Christian hospitality and encourage them to develop a relationship with God and live as Christian Disciples. Time commitment is approximately 2 hours monthly.
